Herein I provide a link on the current item, one Jack Thompson, a hot-to-trot Floridian lawyer who holds a firm conviction on the state of contemporary video games as a flaming sign of the fall of western civilization.
There is a lot to be said and read about Mr. Thompson, much of which is largely a negative indulgence on par with flattening your turds into disc-shaped objects before flushing them. I include THIS link on the man soley due to that it includes the back-and-forth between him and one Scott Ramsoomair, creator of webcomic VGCATS.
This is not Thompson's choice battlefield. He can scarcely properly handle his web browser, nor does he choose to correct obvious typos before firing off single-sentence responses. He clearly is incapable of maintaining any true edge or momentum in his correspondence. Somehow he still manages to toady up to a run of Senators of dubious quality, including Clinton, Santorum, and Lieberman. Well, it LOOKS like he has their ears. It's highly simple to indicate you've sent copies of your emails to other people. It's another thing to prove that your recipients are actually interested in reading them.
Well, enough I suppose. Thompson's crusade is clearly, to me, a simple case of brat-pack tantrums in the Political Schoolyard, where they don't want to play with the other children. The politicians and other forces currenty grinding an axe to dismantle the ESRB only hold the intent to tear down a foreign exterior system and replace it with their own regime, all the while taking credit for roping in a rogue culture. I man, hot damn, can you IMAGINE the political clout you could acquire for founding a conservatively-driven institutional filter on a contemporary tributary of the youth culture such as video games? Herb Kohl would probably sling enough yogurt to drown a candlestick at the thought of it.
Sorry about that last sentence. Anyway. My thoughts. War Never Changes.
